Must Pay Attention to Access Roads \u2013 Hon Adjei"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Member of Parliament<\/strong> <strong>for Wassa East, Hon Isaac Adjei Mensah,<\/strong> <strong>has called on the government to focus on improving access road networks in the country in order to improve economic trade activities and facilitate hassle-free movement of goods and people.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, we cannot improve socio-economic activities, including free movement of goods and people, if there are no good roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe government must work with a new paradigm of road maintenance and standard of care if we are to get value for money in terms of enhanced trade and industrial activities and a significant reduction in the rate of carnage on the roads,\u201d Hon Adjei Mensah said in an interview with <strong><em>EXPRESSNEWSGHANA<\/em><\/strong>, after contributing to the 2022 Budget estimate for the Ministry of Roads and Highways in Parliament last Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" MENSAH<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The House approved a little over GHS4 Billion for both administrative, goods and services and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) for the Ministry of Roads and Highways for the year ending 31<sup>st<\/sup> December 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said, even though the funds allocated to the Roads Ministry is woefully inadequate, the government must focus on those routes that serve as essential roads to ease transportation difficulties in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wassa East lawmaker argued that proper road maintenance is essential to keep the country roads infrastructure strong, while creating jobs for people to tackle unemployment, and part of the process to find a lasting solution to the carnage on the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The government of the day has the responsibility to provide road maintenance services, patching of potholes, de-silting of drains and working along the shoulders of roads through the use of innovative and modern technologies and methods, to keep the roads in good shape,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Road maintenance could take a number of forms, but all share the same end goal: to keep roads as close to their original condition as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" of maintenance is prevention to keep minor defects from developing into major ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of maintenance for unpaved roads include grass cutting, ditch cleaning, culvert cleaning, grading, and re-gravelling, while paved road maintenance could include crack sealing, pothole repair, and the repair of paved edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source:
