{"id":4878,"date":"2022-02-21T17:55:55","date_gmt":"2022-02-21T17:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=4878"},"modified":"2022-02-21T18:11:12","modified_gmt":"2022-02-21T18:11:12","slug":"mp-dissatisfied-with-pace-of-work-on-garu-township-roads-project-execution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=4878","title":{"rendered":"MP dissatisfied with pace of Work on Garu township roads project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Member of Parliament for Garu Constituency in the Upper East Region, Hon Albert Akuka Alalzuuga , has expressed dissatisfaction about the slow pace of &nbsp;Garu Township roads project work being executed by the Urban Roads Department (URD) of the Ministry of Roads and Highways in the Constituency.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;According to him, construction works on Garu township roads project have stalled since 2020, thereby affecting motorists, commuters and general transportation within the District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Alalzuuga expressed disappointment when he dragged the Minister for Roads and Highways to parliament on Friday, February 18, 2022, over the abandoned Garu Township roads project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawmaker wanted to know when construction works on the roads project would be completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/74261072.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4881\" srcset=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/74261072.jpg 600w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/74261072-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMr. Speaker I rise to ask the Minister for Roads and Highways when the roads in the Garu Township will be completed,\u201d Hon Akuka Alalzuuga quizzed the Minister for Roads and Highways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response the sector Minister, Hon Kwesi Amoako-Atta said, the Garu District township roads formed part of the Missiga \u2013 Garu \u2013 Sissie Road which forms part of the National Road N2, also referred to as the Eastern Corridor Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Minister, the trunk road through Garu Township including some selected roads within the township has been awarded on contract titled \u201cResealing \/ Upgrading of Missiga \u2013 Garu \u2013 Sissie Road (km 24.3 \u2013 28.3), Garu Town Roads (1.2km) and Garu District Assembly Road (450m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"369\" src=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GARO-ROAD.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4879\" srcset=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GARO-ROAD.jpg 800w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GARO-ROAD-600x277.jpg 600w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GARO-ROAD-300x138.jpg 300w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GARO-ROAD-768x354.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The contract, he explained, commenced on 7th November 2019 and the intended completion date was 5th May 2021, involving the resealing of the existing bituminous surface and upgrading of the gravel section to a bituminous surface covering the total length of &nbsp;5.65km,&nbsp; for which &nbsp;4km of trunk road through the town and 1.65km of town roads in Garu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hon Amoako Atta said the Contractor has since executed the work on &nbsp;3,300m of concrete u-drains, &nbsp;1\/900mm diameter pipe culverts and the physical progress of work is estimated at 28% complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said, \u201cthe Contractor has vacated site for some time due to delay in payment for work done.
