{"id":6470,"date":"2022-06-29T17:27:26","date_gmt":"2022-06-29T17:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=6470"},"modified":"2022-06-30T18:24:23","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T18:24:23","slug":"cost-of-relocating-ameri-power-plant-to-kumasi-unreasonable-minority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=6470","title":{"rendered":"Cost of relocating Ameri Power-plant to Kumasi unreasonable-Minority"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Minority in Parliament has kicked against an attempt by the government to relocate the Ameri power plant, alleged to have cost $35 million, to the Ashanti Region.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government last year announced a decision to relocate the Ameri Plant located at Aboadze to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to help stabilise the national grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament John Jinapor addressed the press in Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe wish to state as a Minority that we are vehemently opposed to the whole idea of spending a whopping $35 million dollars, which translates to over GH\u00a2280 million. We call on the government to transfer that plant to the Volta River Authority, as was originally envisaged.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Stock_ECG-Karpower-barge-Ghana_Power-Ministry-624x312-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Stock_ECG-Karpower-barge-Ghana_Power-Ministry-624x312-1.jpg 624w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Stock_ECG-Karpower-barge-Ghana_Power-Ministry-624x312-1-600x300.jpg 600w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Stock_ECG-Karpower-barge-Ghana_Power-Ministry-624x312-1-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe VRA has the capacity to handle and manage the plant. We will use every parliamentary process to ensure that this illegitimate way of appropriating the Ameri plant to cronies will not be tolerated, and we will do everything within our means to ensure that we live up to expectation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March 2021, the government gave indications of relocating the Ameri Plant located at Aboadze to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to help stabilise the national grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had explained that the relocation was to help establish Ghana\u2019s power supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMr Speaker, in 2020, the country had adequate generation capacity to meet the demand for domestic, commercial and industrial customers\u2026 In 2021, the Ameri Plant will be relocated to Kumasi to help stabilise the national grid,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
