for Wa West Commends IGP over Policy for Police Officers \u00a0slain \u00a0\u00a0on Duty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Toobu, has backed the new police policy that allows officers who die in the line of duty to be replaced by a child or brother who qualifies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t think that is a very bad policy and I don&#8217;t think it will be a demotivation to anyone,\u201d he said on\u00a0<strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Toobu, who is a retired police officer, argued further that the policy should be viewed with some empathy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen this policy is applied to your family, the excitement that it will create in your family, the lasting memory it will create in your family, you will come clapping saying that is the best policy ever,\u201d the MP said.<\/p>\n<p>The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare\u00a0<strong>announced this policy\u00a0<\/strong>during a public lecture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.<\/p>\n<p>The IGP said this policy was part of a broad plan by the Ghana Police Service to protect the welfare of police officers.<\/p>\n<p>He says this is one of the best ways of pacifying the affected families for their loss.<\/p>\n<p>Critics have however called for more consultations on the matter.<\/p>\n<p><img
