The Ghana Water Company Limited, GWCL has shut down major treatment plants in some parts of the country to save its equipment from floods as more rains set in.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These include the Jambusi Treatment Plant located at the banks of Black Volta in the Wa-West area of the Upper West region.
\nGWCL explains that the level of the river rose to 13.8ft, above its maximum operating level of 13.0ft.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the Nawuni \u2013 Dalun plant which serves Tamale and surrounding communities has also reduced production following the floods triggered by the Bagre Dam spillage. According to the company, two transformers that feed the treatment plant got damaged curtailing the power supply to the treatment plant.<\/p>\n

In the Eastern region, residents of Akyem Oda, Kade and nearby towns have also been cut off.
\nThe same exercise has affected the Densuano plant affecting supplies to Koforidua while in the Western and Central regions, production by the Daboase Plant, the Winneba and Kwanyarko production centers have also been partially stalled.<\/p>\n

The statement issued by Head, of Public Relations and Communications, Stanley Martey also disclosed that it has begun spilling excess water in the Weija dam which is currently at a level of 49.5ft as against the maximum operating level of 48ft.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpillage normally begins when the level gets to 46.5ft. As a result, four (4) spill gates have been opened to safeguard the integrity of the dam, save the dam from collapse, and save lives and properties.\u201d \u2026the statement assured.<\/p>\n

Mr Martey however assured that GWCL\u2019s team of engineers are closely monitoring the developments and working around the clock to restore production at full capacity in the respective areas as soon as the situation improves.<\/p>\n
