In 2021, Russia launched an anti-satellite missile to destroy one of its own satellites.<\/p>\n<p>Konstantin Vorontsov, deputy director of the Russian foreign ministry&#8217;s department for non-proliferation and arms control, told the United Nations that the United States and its allies were trying to use space to enforce Western dominance.<\/p>\n<p>Vorontsov, reading from notes, said the use of Western satellites to aid the Ukrainian war effort was &#8220;an extremely dangerous trend&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Quasi-civilian infrastructure may be a legitimate target for a retaliatory strike,&#8221; Vorontsov told the United Nations First Committee, adding that the West&#8217;s use of such satellites to support Ukraine was &#8220;provocative&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8982\" src=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/M7W4ZS3E7FKHJOJJZY5SKWGI6Y-300x203.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/M7W4ZS3E7FKHJOJJZY5SKWGI6Y-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/M7W4ZS3E7FKHJOJJZY5SKWGI6Y-600x407.webp 600w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/M7W4ZS3E7FKHJOJJZY5SKWGI6Y-768x521.webp 768w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/M7W4ZS3E7FKHJOJJZY5SKWGI6Y.webp 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are talking about the involvement of components of civilian space infrastructure, including commercial, by the United States and its allies in armed conflicts,&#8221; Vorontsov was quoted as saying at the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>Vorontsov did not mention any specific satellite companies though\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/musk-will-keep-funding-ukraine-even-though-starlink-is-losing-money-2022-10-15\/\">Elon Musk said earlier this month<\/a>\u00a0that his rocket company SpaceX would continue to fund its Starlink internet service in Ukraine, citing the need for &#8220;good deeds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The war in Ukraine has killed tens of thousands, undermined the post-COVID global economic recovery and triggered the gravest confrontation with the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: Reuters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A senior Russian foreign ministry official said that commercial satellites from the United States and its allies could become legitimate targets for Russia if they [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":8982,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[2202],"class_list":["post-8981","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-world-news","tag-russia-west-satelites"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
