DKT International, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that focus on the power of social marketing has educated the general public on contraceptive to prevent Sexual Transmitted Infections (STI) and teenage pregnancies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to DKT though there have been reports of an increase in HIV infections and pregnancy cases in the country despite high demands for contraceptives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It attributed this to the lack of knowledge on the part of users of contraceptives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The General Manager of DKT Mr. Abdulai Adamu revealed this at a stakeholder engagement organized by DKT at Tamale in the Northern Region at the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program was to sensitive stakeholders on how to ensure products purchased or prescribed are used effectively and efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the theme “Vigilance of pharma products to improve patient safety in the midst of procession”; Mr.Adamu said lack of knowledge on usage of contraceptives was the main cause of STIs and Teenage Pregnancies in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said it was this reason DKT advocate for the need for family planning, HIV\/AIDS prevention and safe abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He later told Journalists, the increasing cases of HIV infections and teenage pregnancies, could only be attributed to the wrong usage of contraceptives either purchased or prescribed by health professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Adamu noted that stakeholders have been urged upon to focus more on understanding what Pharma Vigilance is and as well position them to find interest in the effective use of medical products after administering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the stakeholders are seen as the focal point between their products and their userstheirence the need to equip them with the requisite knowledge to drive results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT DKT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DKT International is a registered, non-profit organization founded in 1989 to focus on the power of social marketing on some of the largest countries with the greatest needs for family planning, HIV\/AIDS prevention and safe abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By doing so, DKT has achieved tremendous health impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although it work mostly in the private sector, the NGO also supports the public sector and often partner with government health facilities to reach the total market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DKT has over the years proven to be one of the largest private providers of family planning products like fiesta and kiss condoms, lydia emergency, and oral daily contraceptive pills, among others in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having generated over 54 million couple years of protection (CYPs) in 2021. Five of the ten largest contraceptive social marketing programs in the world are DKT programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of 2021, DKT has offices in 28 countries, with a sales presence in 90 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
