The Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu, has urged university students to remain resilient in the face of adversity and never allow difficult beginnings to determine the limits of their future.
The MP made the call when he engaged university students at the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) “Tell Your Story” programme, where he shared personal experiences from his early life, struggles and political journey with the students.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the students to hear directly from a political leader about the challenges he encountered on his path to public service and the lessons he learnt along the way.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Sosu encouraged the students to embrace their circumstances as part of their journey rather than viewing them as barriers to success.
He urged them to develop the courage to dream beyond their present conditions, remain committed to their goals and use education as a tool to transform their lives and communities.
According to him, his own journey demonstrated that success is not always determined by one’s background but by perseverance, determination and the willingness to keep pushing forward despite setbacks.
The MP said he was particularly pleased to have the opportunity to interact with young people in an environment that encouraged openness, reflection and meaningful conversation.
He described the “Tell Your Story” initiative as an important platform for exposing students to real-life experiences and inspiring them to believe in their own potential.
The programme was organised by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) as part of efforts to create opportunities for students to engage with accomplished personalities, learn from their experiences and draw inspiration for their own personal and professional journeys.
Dr Sosu commended the NUGS leadership, particularly the General Secretary, for creating the platform and facilitating what he described as a meaningful conversation with the student community.
“An unforgettable moment with university students yesterday on the ‘Tell Your Story’ event. I shared my early life story, struggles, and political journey with them,” he said.
He added, “Thanks to the NUGS Executives, especially the General Secretary, for creating this platform for meaningful conversations and inspiration.”
The engagement brought together NUGS executives, university students and other invited speakers who contributed to discussions aimed at encouraging young people to reflect on their experiences, overcome challenges and chart purposeful paths for the future.
The NUGS “Tell Your Story” programme forms part of efforts to strengthen engagement between student leaders, young people and personalities whose life experiences can provide practical lessons and motivation.
The Madina MP’s message resonated with the central theme of the programme: that difficult circumstances should not become a permanent definition of a person’s future.
He encouraged the students to remain focused on their ambitions and to see every challenge as an opportunity to build character, acquire experience and prepare themselves for greater responsibilities.
Some of the speakers shared perspectives on education, leadership, personal development and the realities young people encounter in pursuing their aspirations, creating an interactive session in which students were given the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others.
The interaction ended with calls for more platforms that bring young people into direct conversations with leaders and professionals, allowing them to gain insights beyond the traditional classroom and develop the confidence needed to participate meaningfully in national development.
