World Assemblies of God Fellowship Executive Committee pays courtesy call on President Mahama

The Executive Committee of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship(WAGF) has paid a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 10th Triennial WAGF Congress, scheduled to take place in Accra from October 14 to 16.

The delegation was led by the Global Chairman, Rev. Dominic Yeo, and the host, General Superintendent Rev. Stephen Wengam. The purpose of the visit was to introduce the leadership to him, brief him on preparations, and formally invite him to attend the event as Special Guest of Honour.

Historic Congress

Rev. Wengam stated preparations were complete for what he described as a historic Congress. He commended President Mahama and the Government of Ghana for supporting the organisation of the event.

He explained that the change of venue for the morning conference from the Independence Square to the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre was due to technical challenges, adding that the new venue offered a  more conducive environment for the programme.

Rev. Yeo congratulated the President on winning the 2024 elections to serve a second term and commended him for his visionary and transformational leadership. He also praised the President for efforts to stabilise the economy and his focus on road infrastructure development.

He observed that Ghana had made history as the first country in Africa to host the 10th Triennial Congress, just as it was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to attain independence.

Appreciation

The Global Chairman further expressed the Executive Committee’s appreciation to President Mahama and the Government of Ghana for the various forms of assistance provided towards preparations for the Congress.

He encouraged the President to continue to uphold Christian values in his political leadership and to remain steadfast in his faith.

Rev. Yeo subsequently presented Congress souvenirs to the President and led the delegation to pray for him and for the prosperity of the nation.

Government’s assurance

President Mahama welcomed the delegation to Ghana and assured the Fellowship of the Government’s continued support to ensure that the Congress was peaceful, successful and impactful.

The President also recounted his journey into the Christian faith, stating that he had no regrets about joining the Church. He commended the current leadership of Assemblies of God, Ghana, for the Church’s visible growth and transformation.
