Ledzorkuku MP Urges Students to Embrace Discipline and Shun Social Vices

The Member of Parliament for Ledzorkuku, Hon. Benjamin Nartey Ayiku, has called on students across the constituency to stay away from social vices and focus on education and self-development to become responsible future leaders.

Addressing more than 60 students and six teachers from LEKMA I Junior High School during a parliamentary educational tour, Hon. Ayiku cautioned against internet fraud, theft, drug abuse, defilement, and other criminal activities that hinder personal and national progress.

“These vices may seem appealing in the short term, but they will ultimately destroy your future and bring shame to your family,” he warned. “There is no shortcut to success—only hard work, honesty, and discipline will take you there.”

He highlighted the dangers of engaging in illegal acts such as “RED” (drug abuse) smoking Indian hemp, and sexual offences, noting that such behaviours are not only immoral but punishable under Ghanaian law.

Hon. Ayiku urged students to take full advantage of modern technology for learning and personal growth.

“Focus on your studies, get adequate rest, and respect your parents and teachers,” he said. “Channel your energy and creativity into productive ventures—not destructive habits.”

He also encouraged the students to develop a strong sense of patriotism and national pride by appreciating the sacrifices made by parents, educators, and national leaders.

“Be proud of your country and contribute to its development. Ghana needs honest, innovative, and dedicated young minds like yours to advance,” he added.

The visit formed part of an ongoing civic education initiative by Parliament aimed at deepening young people’s understanding of the legislative process and promoting active citizenship.

Also addressing the students was the Deputy Minister for Education and MP for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, who emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, building strong character, and resisting peer pressure that could lead to crime or academic setbacks.

Led by their teacher, Ms. Anita Abrafoa Adu, the students engaged both parliamentarians with insightful questions on the roles of Parliament, its relationship with the Executive and Judiciary, and the process of law-making in Ghana.

Dr. Apaak assured the students of the government’s continued commitment to improving educational infrastructure and teaching conditions to support effective learning.
