The Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, Hon. Lawyer John Darko, has donated GHS100, 000 to traders who lost their goods and property in the recent fire outbreak at the Suame Post Office Market.

Presenting the support during a visit to the scene, Hon. Darko described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that many traders had lost their livelihoods overnight.

“It is very sad for these market traders to lose everything they have in this fire disaster, as trading in the market was their source of livelihood for their families,” he said.

The MP, however, expressed relief that no lives were lost, calling it a sign of hope in the midst of the devastation. He assured the affected traders that he is engaging the Municipal Chief Executive of Suame and will also present the issue to the Ministry of Local Government to fast-track the reconstruction of the market.

Hon. Darko pledged to collaborate with the assembly to find a temporary relocation site for the traders while reconstruction works are carried out.

“I will do everything in my power to ensure the market reconstruction is completed quickly and fairly shared among the traders so they can resume their businesses,” he emphasised.

Some of the affected traders, speaking after his visit, expressed profound gratitude to the MP for his intervention and solidarity during what they described as a very difficult period.
