The Principal Marshal of Parliament, Wing Commander Frederick Bawa (Rtd), has joined the Duo Concept Foundation’s Up Girl Project on the second day of the 2025 Ghana Association of Writers and Book Festival (GAWBOFEST).

The literacy and mentorship session took place on Saturday at the Arts Centre in Accra.

Addressing participating students, Wing Cdr. Bawa encouraged the youth to be bold in speaking up, overcome shyness, and assert themselves in the face of abuse.

He emphasized the project’s role in motivating young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to unlock their potential through knowledge and confidence-building.

The session featured a reading and discussion of Talata, the Child Bride, published by Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited.

The book highlights the dangers of child marriage in Ghana, with a particular focus on the experiences of the girl child.

Other distinguished speakers included communication expert and child rights advocate Madam Lawrencia Thompson, and adolescent and youth development specialist Madam Adjoa Nyanteng Yenyi.

Together with Wing Cdr. Bawa, they shared insights, guided discussions, and encouraged participants to communicate respectfully while striving to make a meaningful impact.

Through the Up Girl Project, the Duo Concept Foundation continues to empower young people with knowledge, foster dialogue on pressing social issues, and inspire informed decision-making to combat practices such as early and forced marriage.
