Majority Leader Leads Ghana Delegation to 63rd UN Human Rights Council
Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament, Hon James Agalga, is leading parliamentary delegation to the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland.
The session is focusing on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, while also addressing major contemporary challenges, including climate change, global polarisation and rapid technological developments.
The UN Human Rights Council, the United Nations’ principal intergovernmental body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world, provides a platform for member states, parliamentarians, international organisations and civil society actors to deliberate on human rights concerns and strengthen international cooperation.
The 63rd session is also expected to reflect on major institutional milestones and examine how global developments are affecting the enjoyment of fundamental rights and freedoms.
For Ghana, the parliamentary delegation’s participation provides an opportunity to contribute to discussions on how legislatures can strengthen human rights protection through effective lawmaking, oversight and representation.
Mr. Agalga said the issues under discussion at the international forum have direct implications for communities and citizens across Ghana, including his constituents in the Builsa North constituency.
“These are issues that directly affect our people in Builsa North and across Ghana — from access to jobs and quality education to the impact of climate change on our livelihoods,” he said.
He said he was honoured to represent Ghana’s Parliament at the global platform and contribute to efforts aimed at ensuring that human rights remain central to national and international development.
“I am proud to represent Ghana’s Parliament on this global platform and to contribute to the dialogue on how parliaments can better protect the rights and dignity of all,” Mr. Agalga said.
His participation underscores Parliament’s role in advancing Ghana’s commitment to human rights, inclusive development and social justice, while strengthening parliamentary engagement with international institutions on issues affecting the welfare and dignity of citizens.
