MP for Nadowli/Kaleo drags Energy Minister to parliament over lack of electricity in Communities
The Member of Parliament for Nadowl/ Kaleo Constituency, Hon Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah has summoned the Minister for Energy to Parliament over non-supply of power to three communities in his constituency.
According to the MP, the communities that were to benefit from electricity under the rural electrification project started in 2016, but have since been abandoned.
The six communities include Booduori , Da-Dambaa and Gonle, all within the Nadowli/Kaleo .
“Mr. Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Energy when the following communities: Booduori, Da-Dambaa and Gonle , in the Nadowli/Kaleo District will be connected to the national grid?,” Hon Tony Sumah asked.
In response, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr. William Owuraku Aidoo said the three communities Booduori, Da-Dambaa and Gonle do not form part of any of the Ministry’s ongoing electrification projects.
According to him, the communities have been noted and would be considered for connection to the National Electricity Grid in subsequent phases of the electrification programme.
He assured the MP and the good people of Nadowli/Kaleo, the government is determined to extend the power supply to every community in the country and the three communities would be supplied when the second phase starts.
But the MP who was not pleased with the response of the minister demanded a timeline for the second phase of the projects which the minister said as and when the first phase is complete and funds are available, the second phase would also be activated.
Hon. Sumah indicated that the absence of power supply to the communities is having serious economic challenges and hoped the government would consider them in the next phases and connect to the National Grid.
