President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate dissolution of the boards of nine state-owned institutions and companies, paving the way for their reconstitution.

The affected institutions are Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the National Sports Authority.

The directive was contained in a letter issued on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama.

The letter instructed the appropriate authorities to take all necessary steps, in accordance with the applicable laws and governing instruments, to formally notify members of the affected boards of their dissolution.

Despite the dissolution, management teams of the affected institutions are expected to remain in place and continue overseeing their day-to-day operations under the supervision of their respective sector ministries until new boards are constituted.

However, the management of the institutions has been directed to refrain from taking major policy, financial or contractual decisions that require board approval unless they obtain prior authorisation from the appropriate authorities.

The boards are expected to be reconstituted in due course as the government begins the process of appointing new members to oversee the institutions.

President Mahama expressed appreciation to the outgoing board members for their service and contributions to the respective institutions.

The latest directive forms part of the government’s ongoing changes to the governance structures of state-owned enterprises and institutions.
