Ghana-UK Relations: Minority Leadership Holds Talks with British High Commissioner
The Minority leadership in Parliament on Monday, August 10,2026 held a high-level engagement with the British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Dr Christian Rogg, to discuss parliamentary democracy and ways of deepening the longstanding partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
The lunch meeting, which was led by the Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin brought together key members of the Minority Caucus, focused on issues of mutual interest, including democratic governance, parliamentary cooperation and the continued strengthening of Ghana-UK relations.

Patricia Appiagyei; 1st Deputy Minority Whip Hon. Habib Iddrisu; 2nd Deputy Minority Whip Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib; Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare; and Deputy Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Hon. Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the experiences of parliamentary democracy in Ghana and the United Kingdom, while exploring avenues for greater cooperation between the two countries.
Describing the meeting as “candid and productive,” the Minority Leader, Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed appreciation to Dr Rogg for the invitation and hospitality.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to His Excellency for the gracious invitation and for what proved to be a candid and productive exchange,” he said.
In a write-up on his Facebook page, the Minority Leader said the engagement reflected the importance of continued dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating the relationship between Ghana and the UK.
“We look forward to building on this longstanding relationship in the months ahead,” he added.
The meeting comes as Ghana and the United Kingdom continue to deepen cooperation across democratic governance, institutional development and other areas of mutual interest, with parliamentary engagement serving as an important channel for strengthening bilateral ties.
