Development Has No Political Colour’ — Joana Cudjoe Engages Assembly Members over Amenfi Central Electricity Crisis
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has called for political unity in addressing persistent electricity challenges in the constituency, saying access to reliable power must be treated as a development priority rather than a partisan issue.
The MP made the call after meeting Assembly Members, former Assembly Members, constituency and community leaders to identify and document electricity-related challenges affecting communities across Amenfi Central.
According to her, the engagement focused on a range of concerns, including faulty and inadequate transformers, damaged meters, challenges associated with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), unstable power supply and communities without reliable electricity.
The discussions also covered the extension of electricity to underserved communities and other challenges affecting the constituency’s energy needs.
Hon. Gyan Cudjoe particularly commended Hon. Gyenfi Emmanuel, a known NPP member and the Assemblyman for Kwaku-Boah, for what she described as his persistent efforts to secure a solution to the electricity problems confronting his constituents.
She said the Assembly Member had raised the matter several months ago and continued following it up, including two months ago and again the previous month, before personally attending the latest engagement with his team.
“That is good leadership — putting your people before politics,” Hon. Gyan Cudjoe said.
The delegation included Hon. Gyenfi Emmanuel, Hon. Mathias Coffie, Hon. Richard Angsokpieg, Hon. Enock Kwaw Sekyim, Hon. Adowah Stephen and Hon. Kwame Ashie, as well as former Assembly Members and constituency leaders Hon. Anita Lafone and Hon. Daniel Appiah, popularly known as Chairman Daniel.
‘Electricity is not NDC or NPP’ Hon. Gyan Cudjoe stressed that development challenges should not be viewed through partisan lenses, arguing that basic services such as electricity, roads, schools and healthcare benefit all residents regardless of their political affiliation.
“Development has no political colour. Electricity, transformers, meters, ECG services, roads, schools, healthcare and development are not NDC or NPP — they are for everybody,” she stated.
The MP disclosed that efforts to address the electricity and energy challenges across Amenfi Central had been ongoing for approximately three months.
She said the District Chief Executive, Hon. Peter Amposah, her office, the NDC constituency and branch structures, Assembly Members and community leaders had been working with relevant energy and ECG authorities to find solutions to the problems.
According to her, the process had received the commitment and assurance of President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Energy, and she remained hopeful that significant interventions would begin to address the challenges before the end of August.
“With the commitment and assurance of His Excellency the President and the Hon. Minister for Energy, we are working hard and remain hopeful that before the end of this month, or God willing by the end of August, we will begin seeing solutions to these electricity and transformer challenges,” she said.
She assured residents that the engagement with the relevant authorities would continue until tangible results were achieved.
“We will keep working until our people see results.”
‘I am MP for everybody’ The Amenfi Central MP also used the occasion to reaffirm her commitment to serving all residents of the constituency irrespective of their political affiliations.
She said her office remained open to NDC and NPP supporters, members of other political parties and residents who did not identify with any political party.
“I am the Member of Parliament for EVERYBODY in Amenfi Central — not only NDC. Whether you are NDC, NPP, and another political party or have no political affiliation, my doors are open to you,” she stated.
She said her development agenda covered farmers, market women, businesspeople, drivers, teachers, nurses, students, young people, artisans, workers, traditional and religious leaders, elderly persons and families across the constituency.
The MP encouraged residents and community leaders to report genuine development challenges to her office, her team or their respective Assembly Members for follow-up.
“If your community has an electricity, transformer, meter, ECG, road, school, healthcare or any other genuine development problem, walk to me, speak to my team or speak to your Assembly Member. We will listen, follow up and work hard for solutions,” she said.
Call for unity Hon. Gyan Cudjoe reiterated her appeal for residents to put partisan considerations aside and work collectively to address the development challenges confronting Amenfi Central.
She said the constituency’s progress would require cooperation between political leaders, Assembly Members, community leaders, government institutions and residents.
“Let us put politics aside. Let us work hard together with Joana Gyan Cudjoe and support the people of Amenfi Central.”
She therefore called for unity and a shared development agenda, declaring:
“One Amenfi Central. One people. One future. Development above politics.”
She further linked the constituency’s development efforts to the government’s broader agenda, saying Amenfi Central was committed to contributing to the national development vision.
“Our President is resetting Ghana. We are building the Ghana we want. Amenfi Central is moving forward — together.”
