President John Dramani Mahama has nominated the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, subject to approval by Parliament.

The nomination, announced on Friday, August 7, 2026, forms part of a ministerial reshuffle undertaken by President Mahama in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

In a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President said Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’ nomination had been submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.

If approved, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, a medical doctor and politician, will assume responsibility for a ministry central to Ghana’s efforts in environmental protection, climate action, scientific research, technological innovation and sustainable development.

Her nomination comes months after she enhanced Ghana’s profile on the continental stage following her election as Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings secured a decisive victory in the PAP elections held in Midrand, South Africa, becoming one of the principal leaders of the legislative organ of the African Union.

Her election was widely regarded as a significant diplomatic achievement for Ghana, giving the country a stronger voice in continental legislative affairs.

As Second Vice President, she serves on the PAP Bureau, which plays a key role in steering the institution’s legislative agenda, democratic governance initiatives and regional integration efforts.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings has represented the Klottey Korle Constituency in Parliament since 2017.

She has also served on Parliament’s Environment, Science and Technology Committee, where she has advocated environmental sustainability, climate resilience and improved public health.

Her parliamentary interests have additionally covered peace and security, governance and humanitarian affairs.

She currently chairs the Security and Intelligence Committee of the Ninth Parliament.

Her nomination is expected to bring together her parliamentary experience, medical background and growing continental profile at a time when Ghana is intensifying efforts to tackle climate change, pollution and environmental degradation while promoting biodiversity conservation and the use of science and technology to drive national development.

President Mahama also nominated Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

As part of the reshuffle, the President reassigned Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, was moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The nominations and ministerial reassignments will now be referred to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting before they are considered by the House.

The reshuffle is expected to strengthen the administration’s focus on environmental sustainability, local governance, national security, infrastructure development and other key areas of the government’s development agenda.
