PRINPAG Backs GJA for 6th FAJ Continental Congress, Pledges Full Support
The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has congratulated the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on securing the bid to host the 6th Continental Congress of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) in Accra.
PRINPAG described the successful bid as a significant achievement for Ghana’s media fraternity and a recognition of the GJA’s growing stature within the Pan-African journalism community.
In a statement signed by its President, David Tamakloe, PRINPAG said the hosting of the continental congress presented Ghana with an opportunity to demonstrate the strength, unity, and professionalism of its media industry to journalists across Africa.
“This is a proud moment for Ghana’s media fraternity and a well-deserved recognition of the GJA’s standing within the Pan-African journalists’ movement,” the statement said.
PRINPAG also commended the GJA and its corporate partners, including KGL Group, for their collaboration in successfully hosting the recent FAJ Steering Committee meeting in Ghana.
According to the association, such collaboration demonstrates the importance of solidarity among media organisations and stakeholders at a time when the industry is confronted with increasing economic and operational pressures.
“Ghana’s media organisations must continue to work together to confront the shared challenges facing the industry. The spirit of cooperation and solidarity demonstrated in recent engagements must be sustained,” Mr Tamakloe said.
He assured the GJA of PRINPAG’s full backing towards the successful organisation of the 6th FAJ Continental Congress, stressing that members of the association were prepared to contribute their expertise, resources, and goodwill to the event.
“PRINPAG and its members stand ready to support the GJA with whatever expertise and goodwill are required to ensure that Ghana delivers a memorable and successful continental congress for African journalists,” he said.
The association further commended the Government of Ghana for what it described as its continued support for the media and efforts to maintain an environment conducive to press freedom.
PRINPAG cited assurances by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, that journalists would not be harassed or intimidated in the discharge of their professional duties. It also cited President John Dramani Mahama’s engagement with FAJ leadership on issues of media freedom and journalist safety.
PRINPAG said the commitments were important as Ghana prepared to welcome journalists and media leaders from across the continent for the FAJ congress.
It therefore called on government, media organisations, corporate Ghana and development partners to rally behind the event and treat it as a national assignment capable of further strengthening Ghana’s position within Africa’s media community.
The association expressed confidence that, through collective effort and cooperation, the 6th FAJ Continental Congress would provide an essential platform for African journalists to deliberate on the future of journalism, press freedom and the sustainability of the continent’s media industry.
