Transport Minister Engages Stakeholders on Strategic Takoradi Port Expansion
The Minister of Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Ninkpe, has convened a key stakeholder consultative meeting to discuss the Sekondi-Takoradi (SEKTAK) Project, an ambitious national initiative designed to expand the Port of Takoradi into a premier Multi-Purpose Marine Industrial Complex.
The engagement brought together diverse industry players, government agencies, and regional partners to deliberate on the roadmap for transforming Takoradi into an integrated marine, industrial, and logistics powerhouse.
Building a World-Class Port City
Speaking at the consultation, Hon. Joseph Bukari Ninkpe emphasised that the vision for the region’s maritime infrastructure extends far beyond standard cargo handling.
“The vision for Takoradi Port goes beyond conventional port operations to include complementary infrastructure and activities to support shipping, offshore operations, business and trade, as well as improved connectivity and supporting facilities that could contribute to the development of a port city in Takoradi,” the Transport Minister stated.
1,000-Hectare Sea Reclamation and Zero Displacement
Project proponents outlined the scale and technical scope of the proposed development, revealing plans to reclaim approximately 1,000 hectares of land from the sea to construct the Multipurpose Marine Industrial Complex.
Addressing potential environmental and social concerns, project leaders clarified that the SEKTAK initiative will directly complement the existing Takoradi Port rather than compete with or replace its current operations.
Furthermore, developers reassured local communities that the offshore reclamation strategy ensures the expansion will not involve acquiring farmlands or displacing existing residential settlements.
