Embrace Sustainable Skills and Shun Drug Abuse – Akatsi South MCE Urges Youth
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, has issued a passionate call to the municipality’s youth to embrace practical, employable skills training programs to curb unemployment and secure self-reliant futures for themselves and their families.
Speaking to a cross-section of residents at the Akatsi Library, Hon. Dagba underscored the critical role technical capacity building plays in local economic development.
The outreach event highlighted a specialized skills training initiative organized by Hon. Edem Ackuaku in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, which trained hundreds of residents in commercial grilling and traditional “goro” preparation.
Addressing the energetic gathering of trainees, the MCE charged young people to maximize every vocational opportunity brought to the municipality. He emphasized that acquiring practical enterprise skills serves as a long-term catalyst for individual independence and community wealth creation.
“Take full advantage of opportunities such as these, acquire practical skills, and work diligently toward building sustainable livelihoods for yourselves and your families,” Hon. Dagba urged the participants.
Beyond economic empowerment, the MCE issued a stern warning against social vices that derail youthful potential.
He explicitly cautioned young people against illicit drug abuse and the smoking of cannabis, noting that substance dependency undermines both personal growth and economic progress.
“I strongly urge our young people to shun wee smoking and the abuse of drugs,” the MCE emphasized. “Substance abuse can destroy the very future you are working so hard to build.”
In a parallel security and economic initiative, Hon. Daniel Dagba was joined by the Volta Regional Police Commander and senior law enforcement officials to engage local market women.
The high-level stakeholder interaction focused on improving market security, enhancing local trade conditions, and addressing community development challenges.
Hon. Dagba characterized the dialogue with the market women as highly frank, productive, and deeply rooted in community progress.
