President Mahama Reshuffles National Security Secretariat, Appoints New Leadership

President John Dramani Mahama has made a major reorganisation of the National Security Council Secretariat, involving new appointments, reassignments and changes to key operational positions.

The changes, announced by the Presidency on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, are aimed at strengthening the structure and operations of the National Security Council Secretariat.
Under the new arrangements, Major (Rtd.) General William Ayamdo, former Chief of Army Staff, has been appointed Deputy National Security Coordinator (Operations).

Former National Security Coordinator, Mr. Yaw Donkor, has also been reassigned to serve as Director of Intelligence and Research at the Office of the National Security Advisor.

Mr. Adamu Saaka has been appointed Director of Logistics and Transport, while Ms. Faustina Effah-Boadi takes charge as Officer in Charge of the Human Security Department.

The reorganisation further places DCOP (Rtd.) Peter Ndekugri as Officer in Charge of the Special Investigations Unit.

Meanwhile, ACP Alhassan Osman has been reassigned to the Ghana Police Service for further deployment.

According to a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the changes form part of the President’s efforts to reorganise the National Security Council Secretariat.

“His Excellency the President has approved the following appointments and reassignments as part of the reorganisation of the National Security Council Secretariat,” the statement said.

The Presidency indicated that all the appointments and reassignments take immediate effect.

The latest changes mark a significant adjustment to the leadership and operational structure of Ghana’s national security machinery, with experienced military, police and security personnel taking up new responsibilities.
