Sissala West MP Appeals for Calm as Buo–Tiwii Land Dispute Claims Two Lives
The Member of Parliament for Sissala West Constituency and Deputy Minister of Communication, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has appealed for calm and restraint following a deadly land dispute between the Buo and Tiwii communities in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, reportedly claimed two lives and left several others injured, prompting the deployment of security personnel to the affected communities.
In a statement, Mr Sukparu expressed deep concern over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
“I am deeply saddened and concerned by reports of a land-related dispute between the Buo and Tiwii communities in the Sissala West District earlier today, Sunday, 27th September 2026. Tragically, the incident has claimed two lives and left others injured,” he said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this unfortunate incident. On behalf of the people of Sissala West and in my capacity as Member of Parliament for the Constituency, I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. I also wish all those who sustained injuries a speedy and full recovery,” he added.
According to the MP, the Regional Security Council and the District Security Council have deployed personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to the affected communities to restore and maintain calm while investigations continue.
He urged residents of Buo, Tiwii and neighbouring communities to refrain from actions that could worsen the situation.

“I urge all residents of Buo, Tiwii and neighbouring communities to remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from any acts of retaliation, provocation, or violence,” Mr Sukparu said.
“At this difficult moment, we must resist actions that could further escalate tensions and result in additional loss of lives and destruction of property,” he stressed.
The MP, who described himself as a “son of both communities,” appealed to traditional leaders, elders, opinion leaders, youth, women and other stakeholders to use their influence to promote peace and prevent further escalation.

“Whatever differences exist between us, no land or boundary dispute is worth the loss of another human life,” he said.

Mr Sukparu further called on all parties and residents to cooperate fully with the security agencies and assist ongoing investigations by providing any relevant information to the appropriate authorities.
“Anyone with relevant information should make it available to the appropriate authorities to assist in establishing the facts surrounding this unfortunate incident and ensuring that due process is followed,” he stated.
He urged the people of Buo, Tiwii and neighbouring communities to prioritise peace and allow the security agencies to conduct their investigations without interference.
