Minority Demands Sam George Resignation over DSTV Price Brouhaha
The Minority in Parliament is demanding full accountability from the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Sam George, over the GH¢10,000 daily fine imposed on MultiChoice Ghana in connection with the ongoing DStv subscription dispute.
At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, Deputy Ranking Member of the Communications Committee, Hon. Charles Owiredu Asuako, accused the Minister of abandoning his earlier demand for a 30% reduction in subscription fees and misleading the public.
“Since August 2025, Hon. Sam George has been advocating for a 30% reduction in DStv fees, but he completely abandoned this stance for what we all know to be ongoing promotional offers by MultiChoice,” Mr. Owiredu asserted.
He noted that the imposition of the GH¢10,000 daily fine by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for MultiChoice’s failure to submit pricing data raises serious accountability concerns.

“We call on him to account for the fines levied on DStv. Instead of explaining to Ghanaians how much has been accrued, the Minister has chosen to attack citizens and the Minority for asking legitimate questions,” he added.
The caucus accused the Minister of “ineptitude, incompetence, and deceit,” citing MultiChoice’s public rebuttal of his claims of a negotiated price reduction. The company clarified that what Sam George touted as a breakthrough was simply its ongoing Step Up promotional offers, which have been in place since January 2025.
According to the Minority, the Minister’s conduct undermines regulators and investor confidence.
“His failure to communicate actual negotiated outcomes—or a deliberate fabrication of what never existed—is misleading and dangerous for this sensitive industry,” the caucus stressed.
The Minority demanded that the Minister disclose how much has been accrued from the fines since their enforcement, apologise to Ghanaians, and step down.
“For this display of ineptitude and incompetence, we deem him unfit to continue as Minister. He must resign or be dismissed by the President,” Mr. Owiredu declared.
