The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu, has issued a stern warning to the contractor handling the Ayi Mensah–Danfa–Amrahia Road project, threatening to push for the termination of the contract if construction does not immediately begin on the Ayi Mensah–Otinibi stretch.

The legislator described the slow pace of work as “unacceptable” and said it falls far short of the expectations of residents who have long awaited the reconstruction of the critical road network.

Dr. Sosu made the remarks during an inspection tour of the project as part of a community monitoring exercise following the nationwide cleanup campaign directed by President John Dramani Mahama.

The MP expressed disappointment over what he said was the contractor’s failure to make meaningful progress on the section serving densely populated communities within the Madina Constituency.

According to him, the road project holds both personal and public significance because of the years of advocacy that preceded its approval.

“I led demonstrations on this road from this junction to Ayi Mensah. It became a very controversial matter. I was pursued by the then government; attempts were made to arrest me, and I even stood trial before the case was eventually struck out. That is why this road is extremely important to me and, more importantly, to the people who use it every day,” Dr. Sosu stated.

The MP recalled that after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed office, he actively lobbied for the road project, which he said was among the first contracts awarded by the new administration alongside the Pantang Road.

He noted that the contractor was also awarded the Pantang Road and the Owusu-Ansah Road projects.

However, following what he described as a surprise inspection several months after the contract award, Dr. Sosu said he was disappointed to discover that little or no construction work had been undertaken between Ayi Mensah and Otinibi.

“My understanding is that there has been some clearing and grading, but that is not what the contract requires. The contract is to construct the road from Ayi Mensah through Otinibi and continue to Amrahia. That is what the people are expecting,” he said.

He accused the contractor of concentrating efforts on the Otinibi–Amrahia section while neglecting the Ayi Mensah–Otinibi stretch, which serves fast-growing communities such as Adoteiman and Kweiman.

“If the contractor will not begin construction from Ayi Mensah to Otinibi, then I will do everything within my power to ensure the Roads Minister withdraws the contract. We cannot continue to tolerate this level of delay,” he warned.

Dr. Sosu said residents have become increasingly frustrated by the lack of visible progress despite government’s award of the contract.

“The people keep asking, ‘Where is the road?’ The government has awarded the contract, but what we are seeing is deeply disappointing. We cannot accept this situation,” he stressed.

The lawmaker also questioned the contractor’s capacity to execute the project, citing concerns over delays on other road contracts previously awarded to the
same firm.

He pledged to use every available parliamentary and administrative mechanism, including filing parliamentary questions, to ensure the contractor either delivers the project on schedule or has the contract revoked.

“I will do whatever is necessary to ensure this contractor delivers on the contract or loses it. The people deserve better,” he declared.

Dr. Sosu further argued that construction should prioritise the Ayi Mensah corridor, where residents continue to battle persistent flooding due to inadequate drainage infrastructure.

“You have left the valley communities where people suffer from flooding and focused on the hilly areas. That is not acceptable. The people need the drains and the road, and they need them now,” he added.

The contractor has not publicly responded to the allegations. Efforts to obtain the company’s response were unsuccessful by the time this report was filed.
