Wa West MP Launches “One Youth, One Acre” Initiative to Boost Youth Employment Through Agriculture
The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, has rolled out an ambitious agricultural programme dubbed “One Youth, One Acre” aimed at empowering young people in his constituency to venture into farming as a means of reducing unemployment and driving economic growth.
Speaking to members of the Parliamentary Press Corps on the sideline of parliament select Committee of Local Government in Accra on Friday, October 10, 2025, Hon. Toobu explained that the initiative seeks to provide each interested youth in the constituency with an acre of land to cultivate crops of their choice.
“The Wa West District is largely an agricultural area with a lot of energetic young people willing to engage in productive ventures,” he said.
“So, my observation was—can we engage them in something that is resource-oriented? Given that His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has promised a major agricultural revolution over the next four years, we decided to prepare our youth mentally and practically for this transformation.”

According to the MP, the One Youth, One Acre programme is already yielding positive results, with many young men and women actively involved in crop cultivation, particularly soybean farming.
“We have vast lands and abundant water resources, and I believe Wa West can excel in agriculture,” Hon. Toobu noted. “If you visit the constituency now, you’ll see young people—especially women—doing exceptionally well on their soybean farms. It’s inspiring to see their hard work and commitment.”

He added that the initiative not only supports youth employment but also contributes to national food security and aligns with the government’s broader agenda for agricultural modernization.
Hon. Toobu expressed optimism that the success of the “One Youth, One Acre” initiative would serve as a model for other constituencies seeking to transform rural economies through agriculture.
