Talensi Youth Demonstrate Against Cardinal Namdini Over Lack of Jobs for Locals
The Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI) on Saturday, August 30, 2025, staged a massive demonstration against Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited over what they described as the company’s continuous neglect of locals in employment opportunities.
The protest began at Biung Junction, with the youth marching through the principal streets of Tongo before converging at the company’s premises to present their petition.
Presenting the petition on behalf of the group, the Public Relations Officer of TAMCI, Mr. Landolba Gilbert, accused the mining company of favoring outsiders over indigenes in its recruitment process despite operating in the Talensi District for nearly a decade. “If you want peaceful coexistence, let us sit at the round table and discuss,” he stressed.
The demonstrators also cited poor mining practices and human rights abuses as additional reasons for the protest. They further demanded the immediate dismissal of Mr. Maxwell Woma, accusing him of recruitment based on monetary and political considerations. The company’s Human Resources Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Edusei, was also accused of nepotism, corruption in hiring practices, and allegedly demanding money from locals before offering them jobs.

Mr. Bugre Samuel Sapak, an advisory board member of TAMCI, expressed disappointment over the company’s lack of engagement with the community. “When they came in, there was no proper engagement. We wanted to be part of the employment committee and bring in our own consultant to negotiate fair compensation for our people, but Emmanuel Kofi Edusei denied us,” he said.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the company, Mr. Shun, the Executive Vice President and Investment Director, urged the youth to put forward their leadership for dialogue. “We need your leadership so that we can sit at the round table and discuss. That way, we can reach an agreement,” he assured.
The demonstration was attended by landlords, farmers, small-scale miners, traditional rulers, assembly members, and youth leaders, all of whom joined TAMCI in pressing home their demands.
