Weak Prayer Culture Negatively Impacting Church and Society- Rev Wengam Laments
The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev Stephen Wengam has taken a swipe at the lowering levels of prayer in the church today. This disturbing culture , he says, is impacting negatively not only on the church but society at large.
Rev Wengam was speaking at Goaso on an apostolic visit to Brong Ahafo Region “C” of the Assemblies of God, Ghana . It was the 23rd out of 24 of such visits planned for this year.
The main event at the Victory Centre Assembly of God, was heavily patronized by pastors and their spouses, retired ministers and their spouses as well as widows of pastors. Present was the General Treasurer of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev Dr Simon Abu Baba and his wife, Rev Mrs Gladys Abu Baba who doubles as the National Director of the Women Ministries.
Participants gathered with joy and great anticipation owing to the impact of the first apostolic visit in 2023.
As usual, Rev Wengam led participants to pray for almost four hours. The prayer session was segmented into four areas -.repentance and rededication, thanksgiving and adoration, and intercession and spiritual warfare. Pastors serving in distressed communities were singled out and prayed for , as well as local churches whose building or temple projects have stalled owing to financial challenges.

As part of his vision to strengthen the family life of pastors, Rev Wengam led married couples to renew their wedding vows. It was a beautiful sight to behold, seeing pastors and their spouses demonstrate pure romantic love at the altar.
Preaching a sermon titled;” The Call To Transform Local Churches Into House Of Prayer,” Rev Wengam said, “prayer is the native air of the church. That is why Apostle Paul called on Christians to pray without ceasing.” He cited an example of his local church, Cedar Mountain Chapel in Accra, where prayer goes on daily. The General Superintendent used the occasion to explain major decisions recently taken by the Executive Presbytery of the Church.

The National President of the Minister’s Wives Association Lady Mrs Monica Wengam fulfilled her pledge of helping to alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable in the ministry . To this end, she made significant donations of cash and pieces of cloth to the widows of pastors, as well as retired ministers and their spouses , and wives of all pastors present.

The Regional Superintendent, Rev Stephen Osei Wusu thanked the General Superintendent and wife for investing their personal financial resources in the development of the region. He mentioned the construction of a legacy temple funded by the first couple, the donation of 250 bags of cement to support their regional office project and the planting of churches in the region by Cedar Mountain Chapel.
The General Superintendent in the company of the General Treasurer visited the regional office project site. He commended the region for the progress of work so far.
