The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region, Hon. Isaac Nsiah, has outlined sanitation, education, and infrastructure as his top priorities to transform the District and improve the lives of residents.

Speaking in an interview with members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) after appearing before Parliament’s Select Committee on Local Governance in Accra on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Hon. Nsiah stressed that his vision is to build a district with improved sanitation systems and better educational facilities.

“My vision is to solve the sanitation problem in the district to the maximum and to ensure that children have decent classrooms to sit in. I will also continue to press the central government to provide the necessary infrastructure, especially roads, since many of our communities are suffering from poor road networks,” he said.

The DCE explained that even before the launch of the National Sanitation Campaign, the district had been implementing clean-up initiatives.

He added that community sensitization on proper waste disposal remains a practical tool for tackling environmental challenges.

On roads, Hon. Nsiah revealed that the Minister of Roads and Highways has inspected several routes in the area and expressed optimism that government would respond positively to their requests.

He identified the Ayanfuri to Dunkwa-On Ofin trunk road as a national project when complete could open up the area to development with the inflow of traders and businesses.

Touching on youth unemployment and its links to illegal mining, he disclosed that the district, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, is working with the Responsible Cooperative Mining initiative to create legal and sustainable job opportunities.

“We are expecting about 2,000 jobs to be created when this program fully takes off. This will bring the youth on board and reduce their involvement in illegal mining,” he noted.

The DCE also highlighted challenges with access to water and electricity in some communities, including the district capital, Diaso.

He said plans were underway to extend electricity supply with support from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

On water provision, he announced that tenders had been opened for the drilling of five mechanized boreholes and the installation of a standing pump, expected to be rolled out by the end of September 2025.

Hon. Nsiah further emphasized responsible use of government resources, assuring that funds allocated to the district would be spent transparently and for the direct benefit of the people.
