Israel Pledges Enhanced Security Cooperation with Ghana Following Jihadist Attack
The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Roey Gilad, has reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and security ties with Ghana.
This pledge follows a recent violent incursion by Burkinabe jihadists that resulted in the tragic deaths of eight Ghanaian traders.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Ghana–Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association held at Parliament House, on Thursday , February 19,2026, Ambassador Gilad highlighted the historic nature of the partnership.
He noted that Ghana holds the distinction of being the first African nation to host an Israeli embassy, a relationship that has flourished since 1957.
The Ambassador emphasized that while cooperation spans agriculture, trade, and economic development, the current climate necessitates a more robust focus on defense and security.
Ambassador Gilad expressed his condolences regarding the loss of life at the border and stressed that bilateral relations would continue to evolve to meet modern threats, ensuring mutual benefits for both nations.

He stated that Israel does not seek a long-term occupation of Gaza.
Instead, he maintained that the primary objective is the disarmament of Hamas militants to establish lasting peace, tranquility, and regional stability.
The Chairman of the Ghana–Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association, Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, welcomed the renewed commitment, noting that the Association serves as a vital platform for the exchange of ideas and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
Adding to the diplomatic discourse, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, Vice Chairman of the Association, called on the Ghanaian government to ensure its international voting record and policy decisions reflect the genuine sentiments of the Ghanaian people, particularly concerning the complexities of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
