Life for Relief and Development Delivers ‘Ramadan Food Baskets’ to Over 250 Orphans in Greater Accra
In a compassionate gesture to mark the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, Life for Relief and Development, a U.S.-based non-governmental organization, distributed essential food supplies to over 250 orphans and underprivileged individuals across the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, February 18, 2026.
The initiative, titled the “Ramadan Food Basket,” targeted several communities including Adenta, Abokobi-Boi, Santoa, Sakora P&T, and Pantang.
Each basket was carefully curated to ensure families have the necessary ingredients for Iftar, the evening meal that breaks the daily fast.
The donated items included staples such as bags of rice, sugar, cooking oil, tins of milk, spaghetti, and tea leaves.

The Ramadan Dinner program is the cooking food for those who fast to breakfast with it and each day the organization provide breakfast for over 200 people for 10 days which ended on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.
During this month, observers abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset.
The fast is intended to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, purify the soul, and practice self-discipline.
It serves as a reminder of the plight of those less fortunate, making the act of “Zakat” (charity) and “Sadaqah” (voluntary giving) central to the month’s spiritual purpose.
Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Country Director of Life for Relief and Development for West Africa, emphasized that this distribution is a core component of the organization’s mission.
He stated that the outreach is not limited to Accra but will extend to various other regions where the organization identifies vulnerable populations.
He explained that the tradition is rooted in the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed, aimed at fostering a sense of solidarity and seeking the blessings and protection of Allah for all of humanity.

Beyond the immediate relief of food security during the fasting period, Alhaji Ibrahim noted that the organization remains committed to broader humanitarian goals.
Life for Relief and Development provides ongoing support in the sectors of education and medical supplies to remote, hard-to-reach communities.
He urged members of the public to join in efforts to support the disadvantaged, ensuring that all individuals are empowered to live dignified lives regardless of their economic status.
The annual event has become a lifeline for deprived members of society and orphans who might otherwise struggle to participate in the Ramadan traditions due to financial constraints.
The organization’s inclusive approach ensures that aid is provided to people regardless of their race, religion, gender, or cultural background.
Beneficiaries and community leaders expressed their gratitude for the gesture, noting that the timely intervention brings both physical relief and a sense of hope to the communities.
This latest effort builds on the organization’s long-standing history of service in Ghana, which includes providing medical equipment to the Madina Constituency and supporting children in the Oti and Eastern Regions with nutritional supplies and educational materials.
