SONA: Sissala East MP Extols Prez Mahama’s “Transformational” Policies, Cites Economic and Infrastructure Growth
The Member of Parliament for Sissala East, Hon. Mohammed Issah Bataglia, has hailed President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership as a “blessing to Ghana,” asserting that the administration has successfully restored investor confidence and breathed new hope into the citizenry.
Speaking shortly after the President’s presentation to Parliament of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, February 27, 2026, Hon. Bataglia characterized the address as a purposeful and eloquent roadmap that transitioned from the “junk economy” status inherited in 2025 to a “boisterous” economic outlook today.
The MP noted that the President’s transparency regarding the nation’s previous financial struggles has paved the way for a credible recovery, marked by a significantly strengthened Cedi against major global currencies including the Dollar, Pound, and Euro.
He emphasized that the government has moved beyond merely “arresting” the dollar to building a robust currency capable of competing on the international stage.
On the domestic front, Hon. Bataglia pointed to tangible developmental milestones within the Sissala East and the Upper West Region as a whole.
He highlighted the “Big Push” infrastructure initiative, specifically the ongoing construction linking Tumu to Bolgatanga, as evidence of the President’s commitment to practical results over mere rhetoric.

According to the MP, Tumu Township is currently witnessing historic milestones, including the introduction of dual-carriageway roads and modern street lighting, which he described as a direct fulfillment of the administration’s promises to his constituents.
On the agricultural sector, the MP defended the President’s stance on cocoa pricing against minority criticism.
He argued that while previous administrations saddled the sector with a debt of 32.91 billion cedis through “reckless leadership,” the current administration is prioritizing value addition and long-term sustainability.
He lauded the President’s “bullish” strategy in the gold market, which aims to extend Ghana’s import cover to 12 months, providing a massive buffer against international economic shocks and ensuring that the country can rely on its own reserves for over a year.
Touching on national security, Hon. Bataglia praised the rapid response of the military to recent coastal threats and the ongoing re-tooling of the security services to combat extremism.
He noted that the President’s proactive approach provides much-needed assurance to those living in border constituencies like Sissala East.
Hon. Bataglia described the 2026 SONA as the “frankest and most tactful” delivery in recent history.
He stated that President Mahama has effectively restored the integrity of the political office by “walking the talk” and replacing empty slogans with measurable progress.
The MP expressed his pride in serving under a leadership he defines as both futuristic and transformational, praying for the continued success of the administration over the next three years to ensure a lasting legacy for Ghana.
