The Member of Parliament (MP) for Pru East, Hon. Emmanuel K. Boam, has intensified efforts to resolve a decades-long water crisis affecting several communities in his constituency, including Parambo-Sawaba.

Hon. Boam made the demand in a direct question posed to the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, seeking a concrete plan to provide safe and sustainable water to residents of Parambo-Sawaba.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister what plans the Ministry is implementing to ensure that Parambo-Sawaba community is provided with safe and sustainable water in the shortest possible time,” he asked.

In response, the Minister acknowledged the severity of the situation and assured that a community water and sanitation system is being considered to serve Parambo-Sawaba and surrounding areas including Bankama, Labonkotes, and Labon, stretching even into parts of Pru West.

Speaking to ExpressNewsGhana after the proceedings, Hon. Boam explained the urgency:“For close to 20 years, the people of Parambo-Sawaba have struggled to access clean water. During the rainy season, they collect rainwater. But for most of the year, they are left with no reliable source. Boreholes have not worked due to poor water quality—either too salty, alkaline, or bacteria-infested,” he said.

Despite being surrounded by major water bodies like the Volta Lake and the Pru River, Hon. Boam lamented that his constituents still face water scarcity.

Quoting a famous reggae line, he said, “In the abundance of water, the people are thirsty. That’s what’s happening in Pru East.”

The MP expressed optimism about the proposed large-scale water project: “The Minister indicated that a community water system is in the pipeline to serve multiple communities. It’s a huge intervention, and I am hopeful it will be delivered in the medium term. But we must keep pushing.”

Hon. Boam acknowledged the Speaker’s advice to go beyond parliamentary questions and actively engage the Ministry.

“Yes, the Speaker   advised that I shouldn’t just pray, but also lobby and follow up—which is exactly what I’m doing.”

To his constituents, the MP reaffirmed his commitment, stating that, “They know I have them at heart. I bring their challenges to Parliament, follow up, and fight to see them resolved. This water project is part of the government’s reset agenda—and Pru East is not being left behind.”

The people of Parambo-Sawaba and neighbouring communities now wait with cautious hope that this renewed effort will finally bring an end to their decades-long water crisis.
