On the momentous occasion of the International Day of La Francophonie, His Excellency Assiélou Félix Tanon, the Ivorian Ambassador to Ghana and President of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors, has made a passionate appeal for deeper collaboration between French-speaking nations and their Ghanaian hosts. Speaking to a gathering of diplomats and members of the Francophone community,

Ambassador Tanon emphasized that the cordial relations currently enjoyed by these nations should serve as a springboard for significant growth in both cultural exchange and business investment.

The celebration, which marks the anniversary of the 1970 creation of the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation, served as a platform for Ambassador Tanon to reflect on the historical ties that bind the African continent.

He urged his colleagues to never lose sight of these shared histories while looking toward a future of shared prosperity. Reflecting on the global reach of the language, he noted that French serves as a powerful instrument of solidarity for over 321 million people across five continents.

A significant portion of the Ambassador’s address was dedicated to welcoming Ghana’s official entry into the Francophone family, a milestone achieved in October 2024. He described this as a strategic engagement that positions Ghana at the very heart of a predominantly Francophone region.

His Excellency Assiélou Félix Tanon,

According to the Ambassador, this integration is not merely symbolic but offers practical advantages for the Ghanaian people.

”Mastery of French opens new opportunities in education, trade, diplomacy, regional cooperation, and employment—particularly for younger generations,” Ambassador Tanon stated.

He further noted that the local theme for the celebration, “Positioning Ghana within the Francophone Space: Language, Partnerships and Opportunities,” perfectly encapsulates the need to leverage the French language as a vehicle for national progress.

Addressing the global theme of “Generation Peace: The Contribution of Youth to a More Peaceful World,” the Ambassador highlighted the indispensable role of the youth in driving social transformation.

He characterized young people as a force for innovation and dialogue whose commitment to tolerance is essential in a challenging global climate.

He reaffirmed that the Francophone Group remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote French education and foster robust economic partnerships.

In his closing remarks, Ambassador Tanon reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors to work alongside Ghanaian authorities.

He envisioned a future where the French language continues to act as a bridge between cultures and a vital tool for sustainable development. “I am convinced that La Francophonie represents a privileged space for dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity, founded on shared values such as peace, democracy, cultural diversity, and sustainable development,” he added.
