Wenchi MP Distributes Dual Desks and Bicycles to Enhance Access to Quality Education
The Member of Parliament for Wenchi, Hon. Seidu Haruna, has distributed dual desks and bicycles to several basic schools in the constituency as part of his ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils.
The initiative, which forms part of the MP’s educational support programme, seeks to address key challenges affecting pupils in rural and peri-urban communities — including inadequate classroom furniture and long commuting distances to school.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony at Abotariye, Hon. Haruna reaffirmed his commitment to promoting quality education through the provision of essential learning resources.

“Quality education begins with creating the right conditions in the classroom. By providing adequate furniture, we ensure that our children can learn in comfort and dignity,” he said.
He noted that the distribution of dual desks to schools within the constituency would help reduce the long-standing problem of pupils sitting on the floor during lessons, thereby improving classroom participation and learning outcomes.
Supporting Rural Students with Bicycles
In addition to the furniture, Hon. Haruna also presented bicycles to Junior High School students in the communities of Ahwenie, Bronson, and Asuofiri, where many pupils walk several kilometres each day to attend school.
The intervention, which falls under his “One Village, One JHS Student, One Bicycle” policy, aims to ease the transportation challenges faced by students in rural areas.
“No child’s dream should be hindered by the distance they must travel to acquire knowledge,” the MP stated. “These bicycles will reduce the burden on our students, encourage punctuality and regular attendance, and ultimately improve academic performance.”
Hon. Haruna explained that the policy is designed to promote educational equity by ensuring that students in hard-to-reach communities enjoy the same opportunities as their counterparts in urban areas.
A Shared Commitment to Education
The event was attended by the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, the Constituency Chairman of the NDC, and other party executives, who joined the MP in distributing the items. Their presence, Hon. Haruna noted, symbolized a collective commitment to supporting education as a cornerstone of community development.

“Education remains at the heart of my vision for our constituency,” he said. “I will continue to work with parents, teachers, and community leaders to ensure that no child is left behind. Together, we are building a brighter future for Wenchi.”
The MP’s educational interventions have earned praise from teachers and community members, who commended his efforts to improve school infrastructure and promote inclusivity in learning.
A teacher from Abotariye Basic School expressed appreciation, saying: “These desks have brought great relief to our pupils. They can now concentrate better in class, and it shows the MP truly cares about education in our community.”
The Wenchi MP’s latest gesture adds to a growing list of community development initiatives he has championed in the areas of education, health, and women’s empowerment — all aimed at improving the welfare of his constituents.
