In a transformative move for Ghana’s agricultural sector, President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the nation’s first Farmer Services Centre at Takoratwene.

This milestone project, situated within the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, represents a central pillar of the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, aiming to modernize farming practices and solidify food security through round-the-clock support systems.

The newly commissioned centre is designed as a comprehensive hub to empower local farmers by providing direct access to modern mechanization, high-quality input supplies, and advanced irrigation support.

A critical feature of the facility is its dedicated storage infrastructure, which is specifically engineered to tackle the long-standing challenge of post-harvest losses that has historically plagued the region’s producers.

By integrating these services under one roof, the government intends to shift the district from subsistence farming toward a high-efficiency commercial model.

During the launch ceremony, President Mahama underscored the importance of reliable transportation in supporting the agricultural value chain, announcing that the long-awaited 3.6-kilometer bridge over the Afram River has officially been awarded to a contractor.

The President shared a personal anecdote regarding the urgency of this project, noting that his own team recently faced mechanical failures with the local pontoon and required the assistance of local fishermen to complete their journey.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the residents, stating that the new bridge would provide a permanent solution to the transit hurdles that have hindered the area’s economic potential for decades.

Further expanding on the government’s infrastructure agenda, the President revealed that the Adawso–Agordeke road has been integrated into the “Big Push” infrastructure program.

This strategic inclusion is expected to drastically improve transport connectivity, allowing for the seamless movement of goods and people across the district.

These synchronized efforts in both agriculture and civil engineering are projected to revitalize the local economy, create sustainable jobs, and significantly enhance the overall livelihoods of the people in the Afram Plains.
