Royal Appointment: Lyssiemay Annoh Named Global Ambassador for Dagbon Kingdom
In a landmark move to elevate the cultural and economic profile of Northern Ghana on the world stage, His Royal Majesty Ndan Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari Gariba II, King of Dagbon, has formally appointed Ms. Lyssiemay Nyaaba Annoh as the Global Marketing and Communications Representative for Yendi and the Dagbon Kingdom.
The historic appointment took place on Thursday, 12 March 2026, marking a strategic alliance between traditional leadership and modern diplomatic branding.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Gundogu Naa Hajia Samata Abudu, the highest female authority in the Dagbon Kingdom, who was represented by the Vokpi Naa.
As the principal liaison to government and private sector partners, the Vokpi Naa underscored the importance of this role in fostering international development and heritage preservation within the Gundugu Traditional Area and the wider Yendi Municipality.

Ms. Annoh, an award-winning multilingual professional and alumna of Aggrey Memorial School, brings a wealth of experience in reputation management and strategic stakeholder engagement to the position.
Based in the United Kingdom, she is tasked with positioning the Dagbon brand within corporate, public, and diplomatic sectors, leveraging her extensive background in tourism product management and brand positioning.
Speaking on behalf of the King, Public Relations Officer Mr. Musah Yakubu expressed the monarch’s unwavering confidence in the new representative.
“His Majesty conveys his deepest gratitude and blessings, affirming the Kingdom’s full support for Ms. Annoh as she promotes Yendi and Dagbon internationally,” Mr. Yakubu stated, adding that the King “wishes her good health, strength, and success in this vital mission.”
A central pillar of Ms. Annoh’s mandate will be the global promotion of the “Fugu”—also known as Batakari—the iconic hand-woven garment that serves as a hallmark of Yendi’s craftsmanship.

The garment, which symbolizes royalty and strength, has seen a resurgence in national pride, bolstered by the Government of Ghana’s declaration of Wednesdays as “National Fugu Day.”
This initiative, led by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, has successfully transformed the traditional attire into a symbol of national unity.
The appointment comes at a time of renewed global interest in Ghanaian cultural heritage.
With Ms. Annoh at the helm of international communications, the Kingdom aims to capitalize on this momentum, driving both tourism and the export of local artisanal products.
As bulk and retail orders for Ghanaian Fugu continue to rise internationally, the Dagbon Kingdom stands ready to showcase its rich history to a modern, global audience through sophisticated and strategic storytelling.
