Don’t Allow Bawumia and NPP to Deceive You – MP for Ejura Tells Residence of Ashanti Reg
The Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyeredumase, Muhammad Bawah Braimah, has urged the people of the Ashanti Region not to be swayed by empty promises in the run-up to this year’s elections.
He emphasized that the choice of running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, should not influence their votes. Instead, he encouraged voters to base their decisions on their current living circumstances.
According to Hon. Braimah, voting in this year’s election should transcend tribalism and ethnicity, focusing instead on competence, the track record of the political parties and their candidates, and their ability to deliver decent standards of living for the citizens.
Speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, Hon. Braimah highlighted the achievements of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, stating, “For the eight years of the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP), they could not boast of tangible development projects.”
He explained that nominating Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, would not translate to development in the Ashanti Region, asserting, “The nomination of NAPO is just to deceive the Ashantis again without any development.”

Hon. Braimah pointed out that despite the NPP having about 43 MPs, many of whom are ministers under the Akufo-Addo government, they cannot pinpoint any tangible development projects in the Ashanti Region. He contrasted this with the NDC’s achievements, stating, “It is not about the running mate; it is about electing who can bring development.”
A member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Hon. Braimah predicted that the NDC would win more parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region, surprising Ghanaians and the NPP. He expressed confidence that Ghanaians are now aware and cannot be deceived by the NPP any longer.
With five months remaining until the December 2024 elections, he emphasized that the country cannot be governed on the basis of deceit. Highlighting issues such as the collapsed economy and lack of jobs, he argued for a change in government to return Ghana to a path of progress and prosperity.
“Bawumia/NAPO cannot help us. We have to change the NPP this year, so Ghana can move forward, so the youth can find jobs to do,” he stated.
Hon. Braimah recalled that President Akufo-Addo had pledged to drastically reduce petroleum prices upon winning power. However, the price of a gallon of petrol has increased from GH¢6.87 when the NDC left office in 2016 to GH¢66.70 now, with prices expected to rise further.
“I have been told that next week the price of petroleum products is set to witness over a 3% increase again. The price will continue to increase if we do not change governments this year. This year, Ghanaians must look up to Mahama and the NDC to change Ghana. We have what it takes to fix Ghana’s economy and bring wealth to everybody.”

Hon. Braimah reiterated his appeal to the electorate to vote against politicians who stir ethnic sentiments to win elections. “The politics of ethnicity is not something that will help us. Let us look at the person who can help Ghana. We have been with Mahama before and we know what he can do for Ghana,” he added.
