In a landmark day for the Upper East Region, the Bawku West District witnessed a massive infusion of developmental energy as a high-powered delegation gathered on April 8, 2026, to officially hand over a diverse suite of completed projects.

Led by the Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Honourable Ebenezer Ndebilla Alumire, and the District Chief Executive, Honourable James Ayamwego, the commissioning ceremony marked a significant milestone in the district’s quest for modernization and improved social services.
The atmosphere was one of celebration as the duo was joined by the District GES Director, the District Health Director, and the District Engineer, alongside traditional rulers and community leaders.

The initiative, which local officials noted is firmly aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana” vision, focuses on the core pillars of human development especially education, healthcare, economic infrastructure, and water security.

Zebilla, the district capital, emerged as a primary beneficiary of this developmental wave with the unveiling of several critical administrative and economic facilities.

Among the highlights in the capital was the official opening of the newly constructed Zebilla Slaughterhouse, a facility designed to drastically improve local sanitation and food safety standards.

To bolster the local economy, ten new lockable stores were commissioned at the Sapeliga Market, providing traders with secure spaces to conduct business.

Furthermore, the district’s administrative capacity received a boost with the completion of a dedicated Agricultural Office and the long-awaited DCD/DCE Bungalows, ensuring that key government officials are properly housed to serve the community effectively.

Beyond the capital, the delegation traversed the district to hand over life-changing facilities to rural communities.

The healthcare landscape saw a major upgrade with a new Maternity Block at the Gbantongo CHPS compound and a modern Outpatient Department (OPD) at the Googo CHPS compound, both of which are expected to reduce maternal mortality and improve primary care access.

The education sector was equally prioritized; the Zabzoaga and Timonde Junior High Schools each received new 3-unit classroom blocks, while Adonsi Primary School celebrated the addition of a 2-unit Kindergarten block, ensuring a solid foundation for the district’s youngest learners.

To address the perennial challenge of water scarcity, the MP also announced the successful drilling of 30 boreholes strategically distributed across the district.

This large-scale water project, he said is set to provide clean, potable water to thousands of residents, reducing the burden on women and children who previously traveled long distances for the essential resource.

As the ceremonial ribbons were cut, Hon Alumire  reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive growth, noting that these projects represent more than just physical structures—they are the building blocks of a resilient and prosperous Bawku West.
