GoldBod Mines Union Extends Compassion through Generous Donation to Chosen Children’s Centre
In a heartening display of community spirit, the GoldBod Ghana Mines Workers’ Union, affiliated with the Trades Union Congress (TUC), made a significant contribution to the Chosen Children’s Centre located in Darkuman, Accra.
This philanthropic gesture is part of the union’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and highlights their dedication to uplifting vulnerable communities.
On July 20, 2025, the Union delivered a substantial donation that included essential supplies such as bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, detergents, packs of sanitary pads, baby diapers, sugar, soap, mats, and cartons of milk. These items are crucial for the day-to-day operations of the orphanage, which provides shelter and care for children in need.
During a brief ceremony at the Centre, Mrs. Agnes Ama Ayittey, chairperson of the GoldBod PMSU of the Ghana Mines Workers Union, emphasized the importance of giving back to society. “As a union, we recognize it is our duty to contribute to the development of our community and the nation as a whole. Our actions today reflect our commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of these children,” she stated.
A Vital Community Resource
The Chosen Children’s Centre plays a vital role in the community, providing care for children who are missing, abandoned, or from vulnerable backgrounds. Currently, the Centre houses 60 children, ranging from just three weeks old to 16 years old, including 10 infants and four with special needs. Mr. Theophilus Eyison, the manager of the centre, shared the myriad challenges they face, particularly concerning the health and educational needs of the children.

“Our children often come from difficult circumstances, including the ghettos and other vulnerable areas. We strive to provide them with a safe environment, but we need more support,” Mr. Eyison explained, highlighting the urgent need for donations to help fund the construction of a much-needed school on the orphanage’s premises, which would greatly enhance the educational opportunities available to the children.
Impact on Lives
In a touching moment, a child residing at the Chosen Children’s Centre shared her gratitude. “I feel happy here. I get good food and can study at school without worrying,” she said, highlighting the positive impact that the centre has had on her life. This sentiment was echoed by many of the children, who expressed their heartfelt thanks to the GoldBod Mines Union. They offered prayers for the members’ continued success and well-being, emphasizing the profound effect of community support.
A Call to Action
The GoldBod Mines Union’s donation stands as a beacon of hope and a call to action for other organizations and individuals to contribute to the welfare of children in need. As Mrs. Ayittey aptly put it, “Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these children and help them build a better future.” This initiative not only provided immediate relief to the orphanage but also reinforced the importance of community solidarity in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable.
Broader Implications for Corporate Social Responsibility
The Union’s commitment to CSR reflects a growing trend among organizations to actively engage in initiatives that benefit their communities. By focusing on the welfare of children, the GoldBod Mines Workers’ Union sets a powerful example for other corporate entities to follow. Their efforts highlight the potential for social responsibility to drive positive change and improve lives.
As Ghana continues to grapple with socio-economic challenges, the actions of the GoldBod Mines Union serve as a reminder that collective efforts can pave the way for a brighter future. By fostering an environment of compassion and support, they not only uplift vulnerable communities but also inspire a culture of giving that can resonate throughout the nation.
