Residents from all walks of life gathered at Jubilee Park as early as 6:00 a.m., demonstrating strong community spirit. From the park, participants fanned out along major streets of the municipality, desilting choked drains, sweeping streets, and clearing heaps of refuse before regrouping at Jubilee Park for closing remarks.

Addressing participants after the exercise, Hon. Atanga Ayoo expressed delight at the overwhelming turnout, describing it as a clear indication of growing public commitment to sanitation.

“I am very happy about today’s exercise because of the positive turnout. It is refreshing to see institutions such as the Ghana Police Service, traders, shop owners, assembly members, working institutions, and the youth actively participating in this national exercise,” he stated.

The MCE stressed that National Sanitation Day should not be treated as a once-a-month activity but rather as a continuous responsibility. He urged residents to adopt a regular cleaning culture, ensure drains around homes and businesses are properly desilted, and take personal responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean to prevent flooding and sanitation-related diseases.

He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared duty and should not be left solely to the Municipal Assembly.

The Bolgatanga Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Kweku Ayepah, also took the opportunity to caution residents to remain security-conscious as the Christmas and New Year festivities approach. He reminded the public that security is a collective responsibility and called for heightened vigilance during the festive season.

“As we approach the yuletide and other festivities, people must take their personal safety seriously. We have recorded cases of motor theft, especially involving new motorbikes. People should move and return from social activities in groups to prevent unfortunate incidents,” he advised.

The exercise drew participation from transport operators, market women, shop owners, public and private institutions, and various government agencies, all of whom actively contributed to the clean-up effort.

On behalf of the MCE, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Chimsah Musah, expressed appreciation to participants for their dedication and commitment. He encouraged residents to sustain the sanitation drive by starting from their homes and workplaces, noting that collective effort is key to maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe Bolgatanga Municipality.
