GWL Assures Greater Accra of Improved Water Supply Ahead of Festivities
The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has moved to reassure residents of the Greater Accra Metropolis of an improved and stable water supply as the nation prepares for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The assurance comes in response to recent supply disruptions that have left several communities facing water shortages.
In a statement released this week, the utility provider acknowledged the frustrations of the public and confirmed that corrective measures are already being implemented.
Strategic Maintenance and Deployment
To meet the anticipated spike in demand during the festive season and the onset of the dry season, GWL has deployed specialized technical teams and logistics to intensify maintenance across its major treatment plants.
These interventions are designed to stabilize production and ensure a more reliable distribution network.
Managing Director of GWL, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, emphasized that the company is working around the clock to resolve the current challenges.
“We understand the inconvenience these interruptions have caused, especially as families prepare for the holidays,” Hon. Mutawakilu stated. “Our teams are working tirelessly to stabilize the system. I urge our cherished customers to remain patient and conserve water to ensure a smooth festive season for all.”
Demand Management and Transparency
To ensure fair distribution, GWL is utilizing its Water Demand Management Programme (WDMP).
The program provides scheduled supply timelines for various communities, ensuring that even with limited resources, water is shared equitably.
The company encouraged customers to monitor its official social media platforms for real-time updates and notices regarding supply schedules in their specific areas.

A Call for Responsible Consumption
With the dry season approaching, GWL is also appealing to the public to adopt water-saving habits to prevent unnecessary waste. Customers are advised to repair leaks, promptly fix dripping taps, pipes, and storage tanks, store water wisely, and keep clean containers filled for essential needs.
Limit non-essentials: Reduce water use for washing vehicles or watering lawns.
Report issues immediately, notify GWL of burst mains, leakages, or illegal connections.
The company reaffirmed its long-term commitment to providing safe and uninterrupted potable water, noting that barring any unforeseen technical setbacks, residents should see a “progressive improvement” in water flow over the coming days.
