The Public Affairs Sub-division of Parliament has commenced a comprehensive two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing the professional competencies of staff at the Parliamentary Visitors Centre.

The training, currently underway in the capital, is designed to streamline operational efficiency and foster a culture of seamless teamwork among personnel who serve as the primary interface between the legislature and the public.

Strengthening Public Engagement In her opening remarks, Madam Kate Addo, Coordinating Director for the Public Affairs Sub-division, set the tone for the program.

She provided a strategic overview of the training objectives, emphasizing that upgrading staff skills is central to the Sub-division’s mission of transparency and accessibility. Her insights highlighted the evolving needs of parliamentary visitors and the necessity for staff to adapt to modern public relations standards.

Prioritizing Data Privacy

A critical component of the training focused on the legal and ethical handling of information. Dr. Gloria Sarku Kumawu, Deputy Clerk (Corporate and Financial Management Services), led an in-depth session on Data Protection.

Dr. Kumawu underscored the importance of compliance obligations, adhering to national data laws, ensuring that personal information collected at the Visitors Centre is managed responsibly, and leveraging robust data security to reinforce the public’s confidence in how Parliament handles sensitive information.

Elevating Service Standards

To further refine the visitor experience, Mr. Billson K. Gordon Brown (CET-Accra) facilitated a session dedicated to effective customer service. The module focused on practical strategies to improve service delivery, highlighting that professional conduct and high-quality engagement are essential for maintaining the prestige of the institution.

The ongoing workshop is expected to result in a more responsive and efficient Public Affairs unit, equipped to handle the diverse needs of the public while upholding the highest standards of parliamentary service.
